Chinese Representative to China-India Meeting on Border Issue Dai Bingguo Meets with Indian Prime Minister Singh

2007/04/21

On April 20, 2007, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister & Special Representative to the meeting on the China-India border issue Dai Bingguo met with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.

Dai first conveyed the greetings from Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao to Singh, saying that in recent years China-India relations have maintained a momentum of rapid growth. Dai said China is ready to make joint efforts with India to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, so as to push for the strategic cooperative partnership. As the leaders of the two countries urged special representatives of both sides to step up efforts in this regard, China is ready to cooperate closely with India to work out a framework of solutions to the border issue at an early date that is fair and reasonable, and acceptable to both sides, added Dai.

Singh asked Dai to convey his greetings to President Hu and Premier Wen, noting that during President Hu's successful visit to India last year, both sides proposed a 10-point strategy on deepening the strategic cooperative partnership. India attaches great importance to relations with China and deems China a cooperative partner of common development, said Singh. He added that India would like to strengthen cooperation with China in all areas and is also ready to advance the process of special representatives' meetings so as to seek solutions to the border issue that are satisfactory to both sides.

Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Yuxi, Special Representative of India M K Narayanan and other officials attended the meeting. On the same day, Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee also met with Dai Bingguo, who arrived in India on April 19 for the 10th meeting on the border issue.
