Wen Jiabao Meets with Lao President Choummaly

On March 30, 2008, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Lao President Choummaly Saygnasone in Vientiane.

Wen hailed the long-standing mutual support and sincere cooperation between the two countries, adding that China and Laos, as good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners, have forged profound friendship. Wen appreciated the Lao side for its firm adherence to the one-China policy and its supports for China's reunification efforts, noting that the two nations need to learn from each other, help each other and progress together at a time when the international situation is becoming more and more complex and the two countries are advancing their reform and opening up in an effort to promote all-round economic and social development. China is ready to keep high-level contacts with the Lao side, build up political trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation in all areas and push bilateral ties to a new level for the benefits of both peoples.

Choummaly said the traditional friendly cooperation is developing smoothly in an all-round manner, of which the Lao party, government and people are proud. China has offered precious support and assistance to Laos over the years and has played a positive role in promoting Laos' economic development. As Laos is moving toward the objective of developing economy and removing poverty set at the 8th National Party Congress, it hoped that both sides will maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, strengthen exchanges, learn from each other and expand cooperation to achieve common development and progress.
