Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with His Singaporean Counterpart George Yeo

On May 17, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Singaporean Foreign Minister George Yeo in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. George Yeo, on behalf of the Singaporean government and people, once again expressed condolences to China over the devastating earthquake in Sichuan. He said that his country was willing to offer more assistance in disaster relief. He also made positive comments on bilateral ties and withed the Beijing Olympic Games a great success. Yang expressed gratitude toward Singapore for its sending rescue personnel and relief materials to China. Yang said the Chinese government and people, with united strength, can win the battle against the earthquake disaster. He added that China-Singapore relations have entered a track of rapid, steady and mature development, expressing China's willingness to work with Singapore to push bilateral ties to a higher level. Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
