On May 17, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, with Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda, who is on a transit visit to China.

Hassan Wirayuda, on behalf of the Indonesian government, expressed sympathy and condolences to China over the devastating earthquake in Sichuan. Yang expressed gratitude for this, emphasizing that under the strong leadership of the Chinese government, the Chinese people are making all-out disaster relief efforts and will surely win the battle against the severe natural disaster and rebuild homeland.

Both sides made positive comments on China-Indonesia strategic partnership, agreeing to make joint efforts to push for in-depth development of cooperation in all areas.

They also talked about the Myanmar issue, reiterating to offer more assistance for disaster relief and reconstruction in Myanmar and make positive efforts for the proper handling of the Myanmar issue.
