On September 30, 2008, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani met with Wu Dawei, special envoy of the Chinese government, at the Prime Minister’s palace. Gilani congratulated China on the complete successes of the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics, as well as the success of the Shenzhou-7 manned space mission. On behalf of the Pakistani people, he also expressed congratulations to the Chinese people on their National Day. Gilani said the friendship between Pakistan and China has withstood the tests of time and is deeply rooted in the hearts of the Pakistani people. To further consolidate and develop the ties with China is a consensus reached by the ruling and opposition parties in Pakistan, as well as a cornerstone for the foreign policies of the Pakistani government. The new Pakistani government attaches great importance to the traditional friendly relations with China and is ready to work with the Chinese side to push bilateral friendly cooperative relations for greater development. Wu thanked for the disaster-relief aid offered by the Pakistani government and people after the devastating earthquake that hit China’s Sichuan province on May 12. He also expressed gratitude for the support from the Pakistani government and people to the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games. Hailing the all-weather China-Pakistan friendship, Wu said advancing the strategic cooperative partnership is an important part of China’s foreign policies. The Chinese government would like to work with the new Pakistani government to consolidate the traditional friendship and deepen pragmatic cooperation so as to bring benefits to both countries and their peoples. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Luo Zhaohui attended the above-mentioned meeting.
