Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with Minister of State and Foreign Affairs of Portugal

On October 25, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Luis Amado, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs of Portugal, who is here for the 7th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). During the meeting, Yang made positive comments on the current relations between the two countries, expressing willingness to take the opportunity of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year to further enhance personnel exchanges at all levels, expand pragmatic cooperation and keep closer humanities exchanges. He also called for closer consultations and coordination in international affairs to push China-Portugal, China-Europe relations to a new level. Amado said Portugal and China are traditionally friendly nations. The Portuguese government attaches great importance to ties with China and hopes that both sides can well hold the activities marking the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties, further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas and push forward EU-China ties. Both sides also exchanged views on the international financial situation and other issues of common concern.
