Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Visits Mauritania

From September 23 to 25, 2009, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and Prime Minister Moulay Ould Mohamed Laghdhaf met respectively with Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun during Zhai's working visit to Mauritania. Zhai, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, congratulated Mauritania on successfully holding the presidential election and establishing the new government. He wished the Mauritanian government and people new achievements on the path of safeguarding stability, building the country and developing the economy. He thanked for the Mauritanian government's consistent adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China on issues related to human rights, Tibet and Xinjiang. He said China is ready to work with Mauritania to further consolidate and develop the friendly cooperation between the two countries in all areas and push forward China-Africa, China-Arab relations. The Mauritanian side spoke highly of the traditional friendship between the two countries and thanked for China's long-standing disinterested assistance. Aziz said his country attaches importance to enhancing friendly cooperation with China in all areas, which conforms to the fundamental interest of both countries and the world peace and stability. Laghdhaf said the Mauritanian government will as always stick to the one-China policy and hopes to continue mutually beneficial cooperation with China on fishery, agriculture, mining and infrastructure construction. During the talks with Zhai, Mauritanian acting Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdallahi Ould Oudaa said his country is ready to deepen coordination and cooperation with China in major international issues and enhance friendly cooperation between the two countries within the frameworks of China-Africa and China-Arab cooperation forums. During the visit, Zhai and President Aziz attended the ceremony of launching the construction work of the extension of the Nouakchott Autonomous Port, popularly known as the Port of Friendship (PANPA). Both sides also signed their economic and technological cooperation agreement and the exchange of notes concerning providing a batch of anti-malarial medicines by the Chinese side to Mauritania.
