On January 10, 2010, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Algiers, the capital of Algeria. The Chinese foreign minister said over the past 51 years since China and Algeria established diplomatic ties, the two peoples have been supporting, trusting and cooperating with each other. Since entering the new century, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Algerian President Bouteflika have exchanged visits and established the strategic cooperative relations, bringing China-Algeria relations to a period of best and quickest development in the history, Yang said. He said, in recent years, the two countries have enjoyed frequent exchange of high-ranking visits and growing political mutual trust and have worked together to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the developing countries on international affairs such as the climate change. Moreover, the pragmatic cooperation in economic and trade and infrastructure construction fields has been deepened continuously, and the exchange and cooperation within the frameworks of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (CACF) and China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) have been developing, said Yang. China highly values Sino-Algerian traditional friendship and is willing to boost friendly communication, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, enhance discussion and coordination on regional and international affairs and enrich the connotations of bilateral relations to push the strategic cooperative relations for new progress, Yang said. Bouteflika said Algeria is a sincere friend of China. Algeria and China always support each other and boast a special partnership based on mutual trust, the president said. The Algerian side is glad to see the enormous achievements in China’s economic and social development as well as the increasingly important role played by China in the international arena. The two nations have witnessed progress in pragmatic cooperation in all areas and enjoyed close cooperation on major international issues. Amid the great changes of the international situation, both Algeria and China have the political will to further develop bilateral relations, he said. Bouteflika said Algeria is willing to enhance coordination and cooperation with China on international affairs and work with China to boost the strategic cooperative relations. He hopes that China will continue to cooperate with Algeria for its economic development. Bouteflika also said that Algeria firmly adheres to the one-China policy and supports China in its reunification, noting that Algeria's stand in this regard will never change. Bouteflika said the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (CACF) and China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) are beneficial to boosting China's cooperation with African countries and with Arab countries respectively. Algeria would like to help push forward China's relations with Africa and Arab countries, the president said.
