On January 27, 2010, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Yang first conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes of Premier Wen Jiabao to Erdogan. Yang said that China attaches great importance to ties with Turkey. It is the common aspiration of the two governments and people to carry forward the friendship and achieve mutual benefit. The Turkish government adheres to the one-China policy and respects China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which China highly appreciates. In the new year, China will as always handle bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective and work with Turkey to continuously deepen political trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, build up the friendship between both peoples and push forward bilateral ties based on equality, mutual benefit and common development for the benefit of both peoples. China welcomes the Turkish government and people to actively participate in the Shanghai Expo. Erdogan asked Yang to convey his regards to Premier Wen. He said both the Turkish government and the Chinese government have political will to strengthen bilateral ties. Turkey adheres to the one-China policy and acknowledges that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China. The two countries should maintain high-level exchanges, tap potential to the full, enhance cooperation on trade, investment and infrastructure and jointly cope with the global financial crisis to push bilateral friendly cooperative relations for greater development. Turkey will actively participate in the Shanghai Expo, he pledged.
