Yang Jiechi Meets Respectively with His U.S., Russian, British and EU Counterparts

On January 28, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met respectively with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and Catherine Ashton, the EU's foreign policy chief, on the sidelines of the international conference on Afghanistan in London.

During the meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, both sides exchanged views on safeguarding and promoting China-U.S. relations as well as international and regional issues of common concern. They pledged to promote sound and stable development of bilateral ties by implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, stepping up dialogue and communication, expanding exchanges and cooperation and properly dealing with differences based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

Yang and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov spoke highly of Sino-Russian strategic partnership of coordination, agreeing that under the current situation, both sides should maintain close communication, deepen cooperation in various fields and step up cultural exchanges to push bilateral ties to a new height.

Yang exchanged views with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband on improving Sino-British relations and ensuring the development of bilateral ties on a right track. China and Britain, both permanent members of the UN Security Council and members of the Group of 20, should coordinate and keep close communication on global and regional issues, the two leaders said, adding that sound development of bilateral ties benefits the two countries and the world as a whole.

During the meeting with Catherine Ashton, both sides exchanged views on pushing forward China-EU relations in the new year. They agreed that both sides should further consolidate consensus, tap potential, enhance cooperation and advance China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership by taking the opportunity of the 35th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic relations this year.
