Heads of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States Jointly Meet with Entrepreneur Representatives

On June 14, 2006, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov and Uzbek President Islam Karimov attending the 6th meeting of the Council of States of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) jointly met with the representatives of the newly established SCO Entrepreneurs Committee in Shanghai.

At about 6:30 p.m. the heads of states of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan stepped into the meeting room and waved cordially to the entrepreneurs from the six countries. All the representatives stood up and applauded warmly.

After listening to the introduction of the chairman of the entrepreneurs committee of Russian Federation, the heads of states made a speech respectively.

Hu Jintao first of all extended warm congratulations on the first meeting of the SCO Entrepreneurs Committee and sincere welcome to the entrepreneurs present at the meeting. He pointed out that it is a major event in the history of the SCO that entrepreneurs of the SCO member states gathered in Shanghai to discuss how to strengthen regional economic cooperation on the occasion of the organization's 5th anniversary. The establishment of the Entrepreneurs Committee builds a platform for enterprises of SCO member states to reinforce communications and conduct exchanges and cooperation. The sound economic development trend, complementary industrial structure, constantly optimized trade and investment environment and increasingly open huge markets of the member states create favorable conditions and opportunities for regional economic cooperation. He indicated confidence that the active involvement of entrepreneurs will push the SCO to achieve greater pragmatic results of economic cooperation and bring about more tangible benefits to the people of member states.

The heads of states of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan extended congratulations on the establishment of the Entrepreneurs Committee and expressed expectation that the entrepreneurs of member states cooperate closely and work hard to promote the development and prosperity of the regional economy.

State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan was present at the meeting.

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing chaired the meeting.
