On June 11, 2008, Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met with charge d'affaires ad interim of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Zhai said that the UAE government decided to provide friendly assistance to China at the critical moment of China's disaster relief efforts to resettle the disaster-hit people, resume production and launch reconstruction. It demonstrates the friendship between the UAE government and people and the Chinese people, which China appreciates sincerely. The Chinese government and people are determined and confident of conquering the difficulties caused by the earthquake and rebuild their home with the support and help of the international community including the UAE.

The charge d'affaires ad interim noted that the UAE government offered assistance to China when the Chinese people suffered earthquake disaster totally out of the friendly feeling with the Chinese people and expressed confidence that under the strong leadership of the Chinese government the Chinese people would definitely overcome the unprecedented natural disaster.

The UAE government donated US$50 million to China's earthquake-rocked Sichuan province on reconstruction.
