On July 18, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the Foreign Ministry with Saudi Arabian Ambassador to China Yahya bin Abdul-Kareem Al-Zaid.

Yang appreciated Yahya's efforts since his appointment for the development of bilateral ties and thanked for the friendly aid offered by the Saudi Arabian side following the devastating earthquake that hit China's Sichuan province in May 12. Yang also expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia's staunch support on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Olympics. The Chinese foreign minister made positive comments on the progress of bilateral ties in recent years, emphasizing China's willingness to work with Saudi Arabia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, so as to push forward bilateral ties.

Yahya said the Saudi Arabian people hold profound feelings towards the Chinese people and there is a sound basis for bilateral cooperation. He hoped that both sides will further expand friendly cooperation in all areas.
