The French Medical Team Leaves for Paris After Completing Its Medical Mission in Earthquake-Stricken Areas in Sichuan

On the evening of June 6, 2008, the French medical team flew back to Paris via Beijing after completing its mission of medical support in the central hospital in the City of Guangyuan, Sichuan. The heads from the Department of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Health on behalf of their respective ministries went to the airport to send the team off. The Chinese side spoke highly of the humanitarian spirit of the team, saying that their contributions were highly welcomed and recognized by the local people for the team had worked very hard to heal the wounded and rescue the dying, helping to treat hundreds of injured patients during its mission in Guangyuan. France dispatched a medical team to China at the time when China was suffering a devastating disaster and lent China a helping hand. This was an embodiment of the friendliness of the French people toward the Chinese people, which China highly recognized and was grateful for. With the strong support of the international community including France, China would surely overcome the disaster and rebuild homes at an early date.

Lieutenant Colonel Pierre de Villeneuve, head of the French medical team said they were every honored to be dispatched by the French government to participate in the medical operations in the disaster-hit areas and do something they can to help the people in those areas. They were deeply impressed by the solidarity and unswerving spirit of the Chinese people in fighting against the disaster and deeply touched by thoughtful arrangements of the local government and people. The medical team would bring the deep friendliness of the Chinese people back home and continue to work for and contribute to the friendship between the people and the friendly ties between the two countries. He extended his best wishes for the early reconstruction of homes for the people in the disaster-hit areas.

The French medical team arrived in the central hospital of Guangyuan on May 25. During their operations, they received and visited 108 patient-times, diagnosed and treated 216 patient-times, and nursed 85 patient-times. They also held one seminar. The conscientious working attitude of the French medical team was highly recognized by the Chinese hospital and local residents. A lot of local residents voluntarily went to the hospital to express their gratitude for them.
