Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei Meets with James Connaughton, Chairman of the U.S. White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ)

2008/06/16

On June 13, 2008, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei met with James Connaughton, Chairman of the U.S. White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), exchanging views on climate change.

Both sides agreed to attach great importance to the issue of climate change and are ready to strengthen Sino-U.S. exchanges and cooperation in this field. Connaughton introduced the U.S. proposals on a declaration of leaders of economic powers on climate change to be issued at the G8 summit this July. Wu thanked for Connaughton's briefing and said that the declaration should focus on reaching consensus and show to the international community that the leaders of economic powers are ready to actively advance international cooperation in coping with climate change based on United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Kyoto Protocol. China is ready to work with all parties including the United States to strive to reach consensus on the content of the declaration based on mutual respect and full consultation.
