On July 9, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu had a phone call with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Eng. Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji at the request of the latter.

Miao Deyu stated that China is closely following the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region and is deeply concerned over the recent developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
