On June 23, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ali Mohammed Hammad Al Shamsi in New Delhi.
Wang Yi noted that China and the UAE are comprehensive strategic partners. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, China-UAE relations have continued to move forward despite a changing international landscape. China is ready to work with the UAE to strengthen confidence, join efforts, maintain high-level exchanges, tap the potential for cooperation, enhance people-to-people connectivity, and elevate China-UAE relations to a higher level.
Wang Yi said that since the outbreak of the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict, China and the UAE have maintained close communication. This war should never have happened and should be brought to an end as soon as possible. Recently the conflict has finally turned toward dialogue, but whether genuine peace can be achieved still requires the joint efforts of all parties. At the current stage, priority should be given to three things. First, uphold a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire and effectively implement the memorandum of understanding just signed. Despite the difficulties and disruptions that may still lie ahead, peace is within sight. It must be firmly seized and made to take hold in the Middle East. Second, resume normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible and keep this lifeline of regional development unimpeded, which is the shared aspiration of the international community. Third, draw lessons from the repeated turmoil in the Middle East, rebuild mutual trust among regional countries, and explore a new regional security architecture suited to the evolving situation. The Middle East should not become an arena for great power rivalry or a victim of geopolitical maneuvering. China is ready to continue supporting the UAE in playing a constructive role for lasting peace and security in the region.
Ali Mohammed Hammad Al Shamsi said that UAE-China relations are time-honored and of historic and strategic significance. The UAE views China as its most important partner and a true friend, and is ready to strengthen high-level exchanges with China, expand cooperation across various fields, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. The UAE highly appreciates China’s image as a responsible major country and sincerely thanks China for its active role in advancing the political settlement of the war in the Middle East. The UAE is ready to maintain coordination and collaboration with China, support the achievement of lasting peace in the region through diplomatic channels, and safeguard the security of international shipping and industrial and supply chains.
