On February 13, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi noted that the world is changing rapidly today, and it should change for the better, not for the worse. It is now the time for all countries to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, to jointly safeguard the authority and status of the United Nations, and to practice true multilateralism. All nations should work together to build a community with a shared future for humanity. China supports Europe in pursuing a path of strategic autonomy and contributing to building a safer, more harmonious, and fairer world. As a European country with unique advantages, Austria is believed to make new contributions in this regard. As a responsible major country, China will stay committed to serving as a stabilizing anchor for world peace and a main engine for global development.
Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Austria. The two sides should summarize historical experience, uphold the positioning of a friendly strategic partnership, and continuously deepen bilateral relations on the basis of equality and mutual respect. China is ready to maintain close exchanges at all levels with Austria and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation. Austrian enterprises are welcome to seize cooperation opportunities in areas such as the digital economy and future industries, and create new highlights in cooperation. Wang Yi expressed the hope that the Austrian side will provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises. China supports cultural institutions and art groups of the two countries in strengthening exchanges to better promote mutual understanding. Austrian citizens are welcome to take advantage of the visa-free policy to visit and learn about China.
Beate Meinl-Reisinger stated that Austria attaches great importance to its relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China policy. On the basis of equality and mutual benefit, cooperation between Austria and China in various fields has yielded positive results. Austria is willing to take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to strengthen exchanges at all levels with China, expand economic and trade cooperation, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to lift the Austria-China friendly strategic partnership to a higher level. The world today indeed needs more cooperation and peace rather than chaos and war. Austria is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China in multilateral institutions such as the United Nations within the framework of multilateralism.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and other issues of common concern.
