On August 26, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Ambassador of the United States to China David Perdue in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that under the leadership and guidance of the two heads of state, the two sides are working to build a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability. It has been proven that improving and developing China-U.S. relations, coexisting peacefully on the basis of mutual respect, and then achieving win-win cooperation serve the fundamental interests of the two peoples and meet the common expectations of the international community. At the same time, China-U.S. relations still face various risks and challenges. The two sides should implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, focus on a positive agenda, properly manage differences, remove disruptions and overcome obstacles for high-level exchanges, and promote the steady, healthy and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

David Perdue said that the two heads of state have provided important strategic guidance for U.S.-China relations. President Donald J. Trump’s visit to China in May was very successful. Both sides are willing to strengthen communication, advance cooperation, prepare well for the next phase of important high-level interactions, and build a constructive U.S.-China relationship of strategic stability on the basis of respect and reciprocity.

David Perdue also expressed, on behalf of the U.S. side, condolences over the casualties caused by the mudslide disaster affecting Gyirong Port in Xizang.
