On the morning of September 22, 2016 local time, Premier Li Keqiang held talks with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada at the Parliament Building in Ottawa.

Li Keqiang noted that China and Canada enjoy time-honored friendship, and bilateral relations have once stood at the forefront of China's relations with western countries for a long time. During this visit, China and Canada officially launched the annual dialogue mechanism between the Chinese Premier and Canadian Prime Minister, bringing new development opportunities to bilateral relations. We are willing to enhance exchanges with Canada at high level and all other levels, improve political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation and forge a new "golden decade" for China-Canada relations, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the two economies are highly complementary. China is willing to, together with Canada, reinforce economic and trade exchanges in a prudent manner, launch feasibility study on a potential free trade agreement in an open attitude, and explore third-party markets with a spirit of fair competition and friendly cooperation. It is hoped that Canada can ease its restrictions on export of high-tech products to China and fully release the potential of bilateral economic cooperation. Both sides should also expand cooperation in financial service and intensify exchanges in a wide range of areas including education, culture, tourism and local affairs.

Li Keqiang said that the recent-concluded G20 Hangzhou Summit has depicted a vision for building an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Canada, so as to together contribute to safeguarding regional and world peace and stability as well as promoting global economic growth.

Justin Trudeau welcomed Premier Li Keqiang's official visit to Canada, saying that the launch of the annual dialogue mechanism between the Canadian Prime Minister and Chinese Premier exerts great significance in deepening bilateral relations and expanding practical cooperation. Canada is willing to, together with China, seize the opportunities, enhance dialogues at all levels, deepen economic and trade relations, discuss negotiations of a free trade agreement and other topics in a constructive manner and beef up bilateral exchanges and cooperation in such sectors as local affairs, judicature and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Both sides can also tap into complementary advantages and fully release the potential of bilateral cooperation in third-party markets in nuclear energy and other fields, so as to better realize mutual benefit and multi-win results. Justin Trudeau said that Premier Li Keqiang's attendance at the UN Summit for Refugees and Migrants this time and the Chinese proposals he put forward have made important contributions to coping with the refugee and migrant issue. Canada is ready to reinforce coordination and cooperation with China in multi-lateral fields to jointly deal with global challenges.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

After the talks, the Chinese Premier and Canadian Prime Minister witnessed the signing of 14 cooperation documents covering economy, trade, third-party market cooperation, agriculture, law-enforcement, tourism, customs, aviation, quality control and other fields.

Prior to the talks, Justin Trudeau held a grand welcoming ceremony for Li Keqiang at the Cartier Square Drill Hall. When Li Keqiang stepped onto the reviewing stand, the military band saluted him with music and the guard of honor rifle-saluted to him. National anthems of China and Canada were played and a 19-gun salute was fired. Accompanied by Justin Trudeau, Li Keqiang reviewed the honor guard.
