Li Keqiang Arrives in Vientiane to Attend Series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation and Pay an Official Visit to Laos

On the evening of September 6, 2016 local time, Premier Li Keqiang arrived at the Wattay Airport in Vientiane by special plane to attend the 19th China-ASEAN (10+1) Leaders' Meeting which is also the commemorative summit marking the 25th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue relations, the 19th ASEAN-China, Japan, ROK (10+3) Leaders' Meeting and the 11th East Asia Summit (EAS), and pay an official visit to Laos at the invitation of Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos, the rotating presidency of the ASEAN.

Minister of Planning and Investment Souphanh Keomisay, Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthilath and other senior government officials of Laos greeted Li Keqiang at the airport. The guard of honor lined up on both sides of the red carpet to salute to Li Keqiang. H.E. Guan Huabing, Chinese Ambassador to Laos, and H.E. Xu Bu, Chinese Ambassador to the ASEAN, also greeted Li Keqiang at the airport.

Li Keqiang said this year marks the 25th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue relations, and bilateral relations are now at a new historical starting point. I am willing to work with leaders of ASEAN countries to review the history, sum up experience, look into the future and map out a new blueprint for China-ASEAN cooperation. China is also willing to join efforts with relevant sides to focus on cooperation and seek common development within mechanisms such as the 10+3 and the EAS, so as to make contributions to regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Li Keqiang pointed out that linked by mountains and rivers, China and Laos enjoy deep-rooted good neighborliness and friendship that remain fresh as time goes by. China is willing to, together with Laos, take the opportunity of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations to carry forward traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to constantly push forward China-Laos comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation for constant progress.

During the meetings, Li Keqiang will commemorate the 25th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue relations with leaders of ASEAN countries and hold bilateral meetings with some of the participating leaders.

During his visit to Laos, Li Keqiang will hold talks with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos, and they will witness the signing of relevant documents on bilateral cooperation. He will also meet with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith and President of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotu, and will attend relevant people-to-people and cultural activities.
