Xi Jinping Meets with President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia

On November 19, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Lima with President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China appreciates and supports President Juan Manuel Santos' firm efforts in advancing Colombia's peace process. China views and develops its relations with Colombia from a strategic and long-term perspective, and is willing to make joint efforts with Colombia to implement cooperation consensus and elevate China-Colombia relations to a higher stage. At present, both China and Colombia are at the key moment of national construction, where both sides should support and assist each other, strengthen high-level exchanges, maintain close communication and encourage and support exchanges between governments, legislative bodies, political parties and others between both countries. The two sides should expand practical cooperation, increase efforts in promoting major projects and actively carry out production capacity cooperation for the sake of mutual benefit, win-win results and common development. Both countries should also reinforce multilateral cooperation and push the international order towards a more fair and just direction.

Xi Jinping pointed out that as developing countries, China and Latin American countries share similar development stages and strong economic complementarity. The two sides bring development opportunities to each other, presenting broad prospects in bilateral cooperation. China stands ready to, together with the Latin American side, intensify political dialogue, deepen all-round cooperation and propel the construction of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in a bid to boost the better and faster development of China-Latin America relations. The Pacific Alliance is an important regional organization in Latin America. China attaches importance to developing relations with the Pacific Alliance and hopes that the Colombian side can play a positive role in deepening mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the Pacific Alliance in various fields.

Juan Manuel Santos expressed that China is a great friend of Colombia. Colombia speaks highly of bilateral relations and thanks China for its support in the peace process in Colombia. The country looks forward to deepening cooperation in various areas, including trade, economy and infrastructure construction with China and actively advancing relevant cooperation projects. Colombia is in favor of strengthening Latin America-China relations and stands ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the Pacific Alliance and China.
