On November 21, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Lima with President of Congress Luz Salgado of Peru.

When Xi Jinping arrived at the Congress, the military band played the welcoming music. Xi Jinping inspected the guard of honor. Luz Salgado warmly greeted him at the Congress's entrance.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Peru are good friends with mutual trust as well as good partners with common development. Since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship 45 years ago, China and Peru have maintained smooth development in bilateral relations, conducted frequent high-level exchanges, constantly deepened political mutual trust, yielded fruitful outcomes from practical cooperation and intensified people-to-people and cultural exchanges, thus constantly presenting new vitalities from China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership. The Chinese side is full of confidence in the bright prospects of the development of bilateral relations, and is willing to, together with the Peruvian side, well implement all consensus and outcomes reached during this visit and elevate bilateral relations to a new high in a bid to better benefit the two peoples.

Xi Jinping pointed out that exchanges between legislative bodies are an important part of state relations. The National People's Congress and the Peruvian Congress maintain friendly exchanges and cooperation, which has vigorously pushed bilateral relations for all-round development. The two legislative bodies should improve existing communication mechanisms, intensify friendly exchanges at all levels, strengthen experience exchanges in legislation, supervision, governance and administration of state affairs and other aspects, cement communication and coordination within international parliamentary organizations and make contributions to pushing forward healthy and stable development of China-Peru relations.

Luz Salgado welcomed President Xi Jinping's visit to Peru, and expressed that Peru and China share traditional friendship. Peru admires China's development achievements. Attaching importance to developing its relations with China, the Peruvian Congress is willing to work with the Chinese legislative body to enhance communication and cooperation and intensify cooperation in infrastructure construction, knowledge and technology transfer, youths and other fields, so as to push forward Peru-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
