On April 28, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos in Rio de Janeiro.

Wang Yi once again congratulated Ethiopia on becoming a full member of the BRICS. He said that Ethiopia is a major African country and an important representative of emerging economies. China is glad to see Ethiopia play a greater role on the international and regional stages and make more contributions to the development and revitalization of the African continent. China is ready to deliver on the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, especially the ten partnership actions for cooperation with Africa proposed by President Xi Jinping, and promote more new achievements in the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries to bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Wang Yi said, the 21st century is a century of development and rejuvenation for developing countries. The African continent is gaining momentum towards modernization and has bright prospects. China has no self-interest in its cooperation with Africa. China does not engage in major-country competition or participate in geopolitical rivalry. China is Africa's most reliable development partner. China is ready to share the opportunities of modernization with African brothers and sisters, help African countries enhance their capacity for independent development, and jointly open up a bright future of strength through unity in the Global South.

Gedion Timothewos said, Ethiopia and China share common ideas and similar positions and have forged a profound friendship in the struggle to safeguard state sovereignty, independence and national dignity. Gedion Timothewos thanked China for its long-term valuable assistance to Ethiopia's economic development and improvement of people's livelihood, as well as its strong support for peace and development in Africa. China has made remarkable achievements in the modernization drive, playing an exemplary role in the development and progress of humanity and the collective efforts of the Global South to achieve modernization. Ethiopia highly appreciates China's cooperation initiatives with Africa proposed by President Xi Jinping and looks forward to strengthening the synergy with China in Belt and Road cooperation, so that the Ethiopia-China all-weather strategic partnership can deliver more benefits to the Ethiopian people.
