On September 25, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Wang Yi said, China and Ukraine enjoy traditional friendship and have long established a strategic partnership. The two sides have overcome the impact of the Ukraine crisis and gradually resumed practical cooperation. In the first half of this year, trade volume increased by 17 percent year-on-year. China is ready to work with Ukraine to maintain the steady development momentum of bilateral relations.
Wang Yi pointed out that regarding the Ukraine crisis, China's position has been consistent, with the most authoritative statement being the four principles laid out by President Xi Jinping. China has always advocated peaceful settlement of disputes and political settlement of all hotspot issues through dialogue. The same is true on the Ukraine issue. China has never engaged in geopolitical games or sought selfish gains. It has always been active in promoting peace talks and building consensus for peace. Closely following the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, China has provided four batches of humanitarian aid to Ukraine and is ready to provide new assistance according to Ukraine's needs. China hopes that the Ukrainian side will continue to take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and organizations in Ukraine. China is ready to maintain communication with all parties, including Ukraine, and continue to do what China believes is right to strive for an early realization of peace.
Andrii Sybiha said, Ukraine maintains friendly relations with China, which is Ukraine's largest trading partner. Ukraine is an independent country and has always adhered to the one-China policy. Ukraine is ready to build a strong partnership with China, discuss all issues openly and candidly, and strengthen cooperation in various fields. The Ukrainian side attaches great importance to China's position on the Ukraine crisis and its efforts for peace, and appreciates China's consistent stance on respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.
