Wang Yi Meets with Vice President of Liberia Jeremiah Kpan Koung

On June 12, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Changsha with Vice President of Liberia Jeremiah Kpan Koung, who is in China to attend the opening ceremony of the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo.

Wang Yi extended congratulations on Liberia's election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. He said that China is ready to strengthen solidarity and coordination with Liberia, practice the vision of multilateralism, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, especially African countries. China's foreign policy remains consistent and stable, and China stands firmly with developing countries and speaks up for small and medium-sized nations. China appreciates Liberia's commitment to the one-China principle and its support for China's legitimate stance, which also reflects a defense of the basic norm of non-interference in internal affairs in international relations. China will continue to render mutual support to Liberia.

Wang Yi said that during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in September last year, President Xi Jinping met with President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, and established a new positioning of the strategic partnership between the two countries, opening a new chapter in China-Liberia relations. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state and the joint efforts of both sides, political mutual trust between China and Liberia has been increasingly consolidated, and cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture and mining, maritime affairs, and other fields has continuously achieved new outcomes. China is ready to work with Liberia to continue to implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and the key measures of the Summit, maintain the positive momentum of bilateral relations, and deliver sustained benefits to the people of both countries. The relationship between China and Liberia is one of South-South cooperation and mutual support between friends. China is ready to provide assistance within its capacity in accordance with Liberia's development needs.

Jeremiah Kpan Koung said that China is a reliable friend. Liberia will continue to uphold the one-China principle, support China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and stand on the side of peace and justice. He expressed appreciation for China's long-term, selfless support and assistance to Liberia, saying that China's zero-tariff policy for African countries has brought significant benefits to Liberia. Liberia is willing to work with China to continue implementing the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and advance cooperation in various fields such as maritime affairs, green energy, healthcare, and agriculture. Liberia supports the series of global initiatives proposed by China and is willing to join hands to achieve common prosperity.
