On August 14, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, who is in China to attend the tenth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting, in Anning, Yunnan.
Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand and the "Golden Jubilee of China-Thailand Friendship". Over the past half-century, regardless of changes in the international landscape, both sides have remained steadfast in supporting each other and promoting pragmatic cooperation across various fields, and the bond between China and Thailand as one family has become more deeply ingrained in the hearts of the people. At the new historical starting point, China is ready to work with Thailand to implement the important common understandings reached between the leaders of the two countries, deepen bilateral and multilateral strategic coordination, and promote the building of a China-Thailand community with a shared future to produce new outcomes, so as to lead Lancang-Mekong Cooperation to a new height and inject new momentum into regional peace and stability. Both sides should maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, ensure the success of the second half of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and consolidate the public support for the friendship between the two countries. China is ready to work with Thailand to accelerate the construction of the China-Thailand railway, encourage more enterprises to invest and do business in Thailand, tap into the potential for cooperation in green development, digital economy, artificial intelligence and other fields, and ensure the stability and smooth operation of regional industrial and supply chains. Wang Yi expressed the hope that Thailand will provide more policy support and facilitation for Chinese enterprises.
Wang Yi pointed out that Lancang-Mekong Cooperation is practical, efficient, and mutually beneficial, and has become the most successful sub-regional cooperation mechanism. Entering its tenth year, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation is at a critical stage of taking stock of the past and envisioning the future. The Foreign Ministers' Meeting is held in Anning, China, where the city's name symbolizes peace, harmony, and love. China is ready to work with Thailand as co-chairs to ensure the full success of the meeting, uphold unity and cooperation, and safeguard regional peace and stability.
Maris Sangiampongsa stated that Thailand-China relations have yielded fruitful results over the past 50 years. Thailand looks forward to working with China to promote the sustained and sound development of bilateral relations, deepen Thailand-China friendship, and achieve more cooperation outcomes in both bilateral and multilateral fields in the next 50 years. Anning is a beautiful, modern small city that reflects China's development philosophy and achievements, which are worth learning from. Thailand attaches great importance to Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and believes that under China's strategic guidance, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation will make more substantive and further advances, contributing more to regional prosperity and stability.
Both sides exchanged views on the situation along the border between Cambodia and Thailand. Wang Yi stated that China supports Thailand and Cambodia in strengthening dialogue and consultations to rebuild mutual trust and restore good relations, and supports ASEAN in properly resolving its internal problems through the ASEAN way. China is ready to provide necessary assistance in accordance with the wishes of both countries. Maris Sangiampongsa highly appreciated China's objective and impartial stance and its constructive role in promoting de-escalation of the situation.
