On August 14, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi invited Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa to have a tea chat in Anning, Yunnan. In a harmonious atmosphere, the three parties held a friendly and candid communication on the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict.

Wang Yi stated that neither Cambodia nor Thailand wants the border conflict to continue and both are willing to resume dialogue and improve relations. The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Anning has provided an opportunity for this. The name "Anning" signifies peace, harmony, and amity, which is also the way neighbors should get along. As a Chinese proverb says, it is better to remove enmity than keep it alive. Wang Yi expressed the hope that Cambodia and Thailand will jointly send out the "Voice of Anning" here.

Wang Yi pointed out that China supports Cambodia and Thailand in engaging in contact and dialogue, eliminating misunderstandings, rebuilding mutual trust, and resuming normal exchanges and cooperation; supports both sides in fully implementing the consensus reached at the extraordinary session of the General Border Committee meeting to consolidate the ceasefire situation on the ground; supports ASEAN in playing its due role and properly resolving issues in the ASEAN way; supports both sides in responding to their peoples' aspirations and reopening border crossings as soon as possible. The Chinese side is ready, in line with the wishes of Cambodia and Thailand, to provide support and assistance for clearing of mines and other activities in the border areas of the two countries. As an old Chinese saying goes, "Brothers may quarrel within the family, but they stand together against outside threats." Wang Yi expressed the belief that Cambodia and Thailand, as eternal neighbors and brothers, can properly manage specific disputes effectively and work together to address various global challenges. This will surely be welcomed by the people of both countries and is also the shared expectation of regional countries.

The Cambodian and Thai foreign ministers sincerely thanked the Chinese side for providing an opportunity for the two sides to communicate and highly appreciated China's constructive role in de-escalating tensions and advancing dialogue. Both sides emphasized the value of peace and the importance of good-neighborliness, and reiterated their willingness to actively implement the ceasefire agreement, make full use of dialogue mechanisms, and manage and resolve disputes through peaceful means.

The three foreign ministers agreed to continue maintaining communication in a flexible manner.
