On August 14, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Viet Nam Bui Thanh Son, who is in China to attend the tenth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting, in Anning, Yunnan.
Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the founding of the United Nations, as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of Viet Nam and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South. During the years of pursuing national independence and liberation, China and Viet Nam treated each other with sincerity and stood together to provide mutual assistance, forging a deep friendship featuring "comrades and brothers". In the course of China's reform and opening up as well as Viet Nam's Doi Moi reforms, the two countries supported each other and moved forward hand in hand, blazing socialist paths towards modernization suited to their respective national conditions. Facing profound changes unseen in a century, China is ready to work with Viet Nam to carry forward traditional friendship, strengthen strategic mutual trust, implement the outcomes of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping's state visit to Viet Nam, jointly build a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, ensure that China-Viet Nam mutually beneficial cooperation brings greater benefits to the peoples of both countries, and make due contribution to regional peace and stability.
Noting that China and Viet Nam enjoy close economic and trade ties, Wang Yi said that both sides should jointly oppose unilateralism and protectionism, and uphold free trade rules and the international trading system. China supports Viet Nam in building an independent economic system, encourages Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Viet Nam, and is ready to expand cooperation with Viet Nam in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital economy, and commercial aircraft. The Chinese side will facilitate the export of Vietnamese agricultural products to China and the establishment of Vietnamese trade promotion agencies in China. Wang Yi expressed the hope that Viet Nam will provide a favorable business environment for Chinese enterprises. Both sides should continue to organize the series of events for the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the China-Viet Nam Year of People-to-People Exchanges, as well as the "red study tours" for Vietnamese youth in China, so that China-Viet Nam friendship will be truly rooted in the hearts of the people.
Bui Thanh Son conveyed General Secretary To Lam's sincere greetings to General Secretary Xi Jinping. Bui Thanh Son stated that Viet Nam-China relations experience strong development, with frequent high-level mutual visits, deepening practical cooperation, active local and cultural exchanges, and effective multilateral coordination between the two countries. Viet Nam is willing to work with China to plan high-level exchanges in the second half of this year, enhance cooperation in trade and investment, rail connectivity, law enforcement and security, and scientific and technological innovation, among other fields, and achieve more results. Amid the complex changes in the current international and regional situations, Viet Nam looks forward to maintaining strategic communication with China, strengthening solidarity and cooperation, supporting each other on multilateral platforms, and jointly safeguarding regional peace and stability. Viet Nam attaches great importance to Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, appreciates China's contributions, and is willing to work with all parties to ensure the full success of this Foreign Ministers' Meeting and prepare for the Leaders' Meeting.
Wang Yi said that Lancang-Mekong Cooperation has achieved remarkable results over the past ten years, and all parties should summarize experience, prepare for the Leaders' Meeting, advance cooperation to a new stage, and elevate it to a new level.
Both sides also exchanged views on the South China Sea issue.
