Outcome of the Tea Chat among Foreign Ministers of China, Cambodia and Thailand

On 14 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand had a tea chat in Anning, Yunnan, China, on the sidelines of the LMC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. China summarized the outcome of the chat as follows: 

1. Cambodia and Thailand have expressed their commitment to strengthening engagement and communication, resuming normal exchanges at the earliest time, rebuilding and enhancing mutual trust. 

2. China supports Cambodia and Thailand in earnestly implementing the consensus reached at the recent Special Meeting and the Extraordinary Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting, in a bid to restore peace and tranquility in the border areas, and realize a sustainable ceasefire. 

3. China supports ASEAN in continuing to play an active role and safeguarding the solidarity of ASEAN as a whole. 

4. Cambodia and Thailand are encouraged to build up conditions for returning to normalcy to the border areas, so as to live up to the expectations of the people in the border areas of the two countries. 

5. Based on the wishes of Cambodia and Thailand, China stands ready to continue its constructive role, including providing support and assistance for de-mining in the border areas agreed by both Cambodia and Thailand.
