On November 7, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maka Botchorishvili in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that China and Georgia are good friends and good partners. Georgia is China's first strategic partner in Transcaucasia and also the first country in the Eurasian region to establish a free trade arrangement with China. Over the 33 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Georgia, friendship and cooperation have remained the main themes of bilateral relations. The two sides have upheld mutual respect, mutual trust, and mutual benefit, advancing sound and stable development of bilateral relations and achieving fruitful results in cooperation across various fields. China has always viewed and developed its relations with Georgia from a strategic height and long-term perspective. China is ready to work with Georgia to consolidate strategic mutual trust, carry forward the traditional friendship and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation to promote the greater development of bilateral relations.
Wang Yi noted that the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee was successfully convened, which deliberated over and adopted the Recommendations for the 15th Five-Year Plan. The sound formulation and continuous implementation of the five-year plans constitute an important governance experience of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a distinctive strength of socialism with Chinese characteristics. China will further deepen reform comprehensively, expand high-standard opening up, accelerate the establishment of a new development paradigm, and advance Chinese modernization on all fronts through high-quality development. China will advance a broader agenda of opening up across more areas and in greater depth and build an open world economy that delivers greater benefits to all peoples. China is ready to work with Georgia to enhance strategic synergy, tap into the potential for cooperation, and expand cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, connectivity, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The two sides will work together to further deepen and substantiate high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, share development opportunities, and achieve common prosperity.

Wang Yi emphasized that as important members of the Global South, China and Georgia should strengthen international coordination, jointly uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, and work together to advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world and universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization. The world should move forward, not backward, and must not return to the law of the jungle. The Global Governance Initiative put forth by President Xi Jinping has been commended and supported by the Georgian side. China is ready to work with Georgia to jointly implement this important initiative, and better safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Global South, as well as the common interests of the international community. China welcomes Georgia to join the International Organization for Mediation.
Maka Botchorishvili said that she is pleased to pay her first visit to China. Georgia attaches great importance to its relations with China and looks forward to elevating the bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Georgia will continue to actively participate in Belt and Road cooperation and deepen practical cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, connectivity, science and technology, direct flights, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Georgia hopes that the upgraded version of its bilateral free trade agreement with China will be implemented at a faster pace, and that more Georgian products will enter the Chinese market. Georgia firmly adheres to the one-China policy and will support China in all possible ways and on all occasions. Georgia also supports the series of initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, including the Global Governance Initiative, and is willing to continue strengthening cooperation with China on international and regional affairs to jointly safeguard world peace and stability.
