Wang Yi Has a Phone Call with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand

On November 11, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand at the latter's request.

Wang Yi said that not long ago, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Mark Carney held a pivotal meeting in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea (ROK), where they reached important common understandings and provided strategic guidance on the improvement and development of China-Canada relations. This marks that China‑Canada relations have been brought back onto the right track of development after seven years of twists and turns.

Wang Yi pointed out that implementing the common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries is currently the most important agenda for China-Canada relations. The Chinese side is ready to enhance communication with the Canadian side and take effective actions to accelerate the resumption of exchanges and cooperation in various fields, so as to consolidate the momentum for further improving and developing China-Canada relations in a pragmatic and constructive manner. The foreign affairs, commerce and other departments of both countries can strengthen coordination, and in the spirit of mutual understanding, accommodation, and friendly consultations, properly address each other's legitimate concerns, and advance the sound, stable and sustainable development of China‑Canada relations.

Anita Anand said that the candid, in‑depth and productive meeting between the leaders of the two countries in Gyeongju of the ROK more than one week ago marks an important turning point in Canada-China relations. The Canadian side is willing to seize this opportunity to strengthen dialogue and communication with the Chinese side at all levels and across various fields, enhance understanding and mutual trust, reinvigorate the Canada-China strategic partnership, deliver more mutually beneficial outcomes in trade, consular affairs, counter-narcotics, energy and other fields, and jointly follow through on the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries.
