On June 5, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister of Myanmar Tin Maung Swe in Beijing.
Wang Yi noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 76 years ago, China and Myanmar have firmly adhered to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence jointly advocated by the two countries, sharing weal and woe and rendering mutual assistance, thus setting a fine example of friendly exchanges between nations. The historic visit to Myanmar by President Xi Jinping in 2020 ushered China-Myanmar relations into a new era of building a community with a shared future. This year marks the first year of the new government’s administration in Myanmar. China stands ready to work with Myanmar to strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, deepen strategic cooperation, achieve more practical outcomes in building the China-Myanmar community with a shared future, and help accelerate Myanmar’s development and revitalization.

Wang Yi stated that China adheres to the principle of noninterference in internal affairs, respects the choice of the Myanmar people, and supports Myanmar in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions, actively advancing domestic peace and reconciliation, and safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests. China is ready to work with Myanmar on high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen cooperation in post-earthquake reconstruction, people’s livelihood and cultural exchanges, trade and investment, steadily advance key projects under the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, jointly combat transnational crimes such as online gambling and telecom fraud, and maintain peace and tranquility in the China-Myanmar border areas. China hopes that Myanmar will ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions and projects in Myanmar. The two sides should further enhance multilateral coordination to safeguard common interests.
Tin Maung Swe said that Myanmar and China are “pauk-phaw” friends and neighbors sharing a common destiny and partners enjoying mutual trust. He appreciated China for its long-term valuable assistance to Myanmar’s economic and social development. Myanmar fully supports the four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, firmly pursues the one-China policy, and resolutely opposes any “Taiwan independence” separatist activities that endanger regional peace and stability, as well as any interference by external forces in China’s internal affairs. Chinese modernization will bring new cooperation opportunities for Myanmar and other countries in the region. The new Myanmar government stands ready to strengthen high-level exchanges with China, advance the building of the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor, and welcome more Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Myanmar. Myanmar will continue to resolutely combat online gambling and telecom fraud and make every effort to safeguard the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions and projects in Myanmar. Myanmar looks forward to further strengthening communication and collaboration with China at multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation. The new Myanmar government is committed to advancing the domestic peace process and achieving stable development, and hopes that China will continue to play a constructive role.
