On September 30, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson of the US.
Wang Yi expressed that under strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump, China-US relations have achieved positive progress and faced with important opportunities for further development. The two sides should well make preparation to ensure President Donald Trump's state visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping to achieve positive outcomes, thus injecting new and strong impetus into the development of bilateral relations in the next period. In the next stage, China is willing to, together with the US, earnestly implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, comprehensively arrange bilateral exchanges and dialogues, expand practical cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit, control sensitive issues based on mutual respect, and continuously maintain close communication and coordination on international and regional issues, in a bid to advance China-US relations to move forward along a correct direction and better benefit the two peoples and people in the world.
Wang Yi expounded China's principled stance on issues including the Taiwan question and urged the US to respect China's concerns and deal with relevant issues properly to avoid disturbance to the development of bilateral relations.
Rex Tillerson said that since President Donald Trump took office, US-China relations have achieved prominent progress. The US attaches great importance to bilateral relations, and stands ready to actively expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields with China. The US's adherence to the one-China policy remains unchanged. President Donald Trump looks forward to the state visit to China and jointly outlining the development of bilateral relations in the next several decades with President Xi Jinping. The US is ready to make efforts with China to ensure the visit a success.
Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on the current Korean Peninsula situation, the Afghan issue and other issues.
