On the evening of November 9, 2017, President Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan hosted a banquet at the Great Hall of the People to welcome President Donald Trump of the US and his wife Mme. Melania Trump. Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Zhang Gaoli, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, Han Zheng, Liu Yunshan and Wang Qishan were present.

The glorious Great Auditorium of the Great Hall of the People saw a gathering of distinguished guests. Both heads of state delivered enthusiastic speeches respectively at the banquet.

Xi Jinping noted that although there is a vast ocean between China and the US, distance has never prevented our two great nations from coming together. The two sides have never ceased their endeavor to pursue friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation. President Richard Nixon's visit to China 45 years ago has opened the door of China-US exchanges. Under joint efforts of several generations of leaders and people of our two countries, China-US relations have achieved historical development, which has benefited the two peoples and changed the world pattern. Today, China-US relations have become a community of shared interests. Currently, the two countries share more and broader common interests in maintaining world peace and promoting common development, and shoulder greater and heavier common responsibilities. The strategic significance and global influence of China-US relations are further increased.

Xi Jinping emphasized that President Donald Trump's visit to China carries important historical significance. In the past two days, President Donald Trump and I have drawn up a blueprint for the development of China-US relations in the coming years. It is our shared belief that the two countries should be partners, not rivals and that our cooperation can lead to fruitful results that are beneficial to both countries and the rest of the world. An ancient Chinese said that nothing in the world can stop a person with great determination. It is my conviction that China-US relations face limited challenges, but the growth potential is unlimited. As long as we uphold an unswerving and persistent spirit, we will be able to write a new historical chapter for China-US relations and the two countries will make new contributions to a bright future for mankind.

Donald Trump expressed that he appreciated President Xi Jinping's warm reception during his visit to China, a wonderful country. He noted that American people admire China's time-honored civilization. At this historic moment, he firmly believed that US-China cooperation would benefit the two peoples and bring peace, security and prosperity to the world.

Prior to the banquet, classic scenes of President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump's meetings at Mar-a-Lago, and in Hamburg, as well as President Donald Trump's visit to China this time were played at the Great Auditorium. President Donald Trump also proposed to play the videos of his granddaughter singing Chinese songs and reciting Three Character Classic as well as Chinese ancient poems, winning rounds of thunderous applause from the audience.

Ding Xuexiang, Wang Chen, Liu He, Liu Yandong, Yang Jiechi, Guo Shengkun, Cai Qi, Han Qide, Dong Jianhua, Wan Gang, Zhou Xiaochuan and a number of members of the US cabinet as well as senior White House officials including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson of the US were present at the banquet.
