On November 11, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at request with Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland of Canada in Da Nang, Vietnam. Wang Yi said that faced with the volatile international situation, China and Canada send to the world a positive signal by strengthening strategic cooperation. China stands ready to deepen cooperation with Canada in various fields and advance the research progress of China-Canada free trade area, so as to make China-Canada strategic partnership worthy of its name and add new connotations into the "golden era" of bilateral relations. Wang Yi introduced the main accomplishments and important significance of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and emphasized that China, which has entered a new era, will provide huge opportunities for Canada.
Chrystia Freeland extended warm congratulations on the successful convening of the 19th CPC National Congress, saying that it bears important and far-reaching significance for both China and the world. Chrystia Freeland expressed that both countries have increasing common interests and support multilateralism process. Canada appreciates the active role China plays in global trading system and dealing with climate change and is willing to further strengthen the strategic partnership with China.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
