On November 29, 2017, President Xi Jinping met at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with former President Barack Obama of the United States (US).

Xi Jinping spoke positively of Barack Obama's efforts in promoting the development of China-US relations during his tenure as US President.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and the US share extensive common interests and shoulder an important responsibility in safeguarding world peace and stability and advancing global development and prosperity. To maintain long-term, healthy and stable development of China-US relations is in line with the interests of both countries and all countries in the world. China is willing to make joint efforts with the US to strengthen communication, exchanges and cooperation, so as to constantly push bilateral relations for new development.

Xi Jinping briefed Barack Obama on the main outcomes of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Barack Obama thanked Xi Jinping for meeting him. He expressed that China's development achievements are admirable. Developing constructive US-China relations conforms to the interests of the two peoples. He will continue playing a positive role in promoting mutual understanding, exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.
