From May 3 to 4, 2018, the annual consultation of Director-Generals from departments in charge of international affairs of the foreign ministries of the five permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council was held in Yinchuan, Ningxia. Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Foreign Ministry Li Junhua presided over the consultation. Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pyotr Viktorovich Ilyichev of Russia, Director of Multilateral Policy of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Paul Williams of the United Kingdom, Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Alexis Lamek of France, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Eric V. Gaudiosi of the United States were present.
Director-Generals from departments in charge of international affairs of the foreign ministries of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council exchanged in-depth views on such topics as international and regional hot-spot issues, and the UN reform. All Director-Generals expressed the willingness to continue to enhance communication and cooperation, and promote the UN Security Council to better fulfill the obligations vested by the UN Charter, and tackle the new tasks and new challenges under the current situation, in a bid to safeguard international peace and security.
During the consultation, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Foreign Ministry Li Junhua held China-Russia annual consultation on the UN and the UN Security Council affairs with Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pyotr Viktorovich Ilyichev of Russia, and met with Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Alexis Lamek of France, exchanging views on topics of common interest.
