Wang Yi: Economic and Trade Issues of China and the US Should Be Properly Dealt with Win-win Solutions Rather than a Lose-lose Situation
Updated: June 14, 2018 15:23

On June 14, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of the United States (US) in Beijing. Both sides jointly met the press after their talks.

When talking about economic and trade issues of China and the US, Wang Yi expressed that economic teams of China and the US have held multiple rounds of consultations on economic and trade issues of the two countries so far, reaching important understanding and consensus between the two sides. The most fundamental thing is to agree to deal with differences by adopting constructive means. It is hoped that the US will meet China halfway, and practically follow this significant consensus, so as to promote relevant issues for proper solution. During this process, it is hoped that the US will neither take any unconstructive behaviors unilaterally, nor create new obstacles for bilateral consultations in the next step.

Wang Yi noted that at present, both sides are facing two choices. The first is cooperation and win-win results, and the second is confrontation and a lose-lose situation. China has chosen the first one, and we hope the US will make the same wise choice. Certainly, China has also made preparation for dealing with the second choice.
