Wang Yi: China Supports Bringing the Korean Peninsula Nuclear Issue Back to the Right Track of Peaceful Settlement Through Dialogue
Updated: June 14, 2018 15:27

On June 14, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of the United States (US).

Prior to the talks, Wang Yi told journalists present that President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-un held a successful meeting in Singapore the day before yesterday, which was the first-ever meeting between the leaders of the US and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and of great historic significance. The meeting brought the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue back to the right track of peaceful settlement through dialogue, which accords with the common interests of all parties including the US and the DPRK and is in line with the common aspiration of the international community. And the meeting is conducive to promoting and realizing the goal of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and bringing real and lasting peace to the Korean Peninsula and the region. China appreciates the unremitting efforts made by the US side to this end, including that of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo himself. I am willing to listen to the introduction of this meeting's situation from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and have an in-depth exchange of views with the US side to jointly promote the political settlement process of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
