Updated: June 14, 2018 15:38

On June 14, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of the United States (US) in Beijing. Both sides jointly met the press after their talks.

Wang Yi expressed that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo briefed the situation of the summit between the US and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Singapore. It was a successful historic summit which particularly brought the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue back to the track of settlement through dialogue, bringing the hope of peace to the Peninsula. We highly appreciate the courage and responsibility that the leaders of the US and the DPRK have displayed.

Wang Yi noted that the summit was an important and good beginning. Indeed, resolving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue requires a process that takes time. We hope and believe that both the US and the DPRK are able to well implement the consensus reached at the summit, continuously meet each other halfway and interact with each other actively.

Wang Yi stated that since the Korean Peninsula situation influences the interests of all countries in the region, the issue cannot be resolved without the support and participation of all sides. China is willing to, together with all relevant sides including the US and the DPRK, intensify communication, and continue to play a due role in promoting the denuclearization and establishing the peace mechanism of the Peninsula.
