On June 14, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng urgently summoned Charge d'Affaires a.i. of the United States (US) Embassy in China Robert W. Forden, to lodge solemn representations against the US side's irresponsible words and deeds on the amendment to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Ordinance by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Le Yucheng pointed out that Hong Kong is China's SAR and its affairs are purely China's internal affairs that brook no foreign interference. Recently, some senior US officials have been making irresponsible remarks and grossly interfering in the SAR government's amendment to the ordinances. The Chinese side is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes to this. We urge the US side to adopt a fair and objective attitude with regard to the lawful amendment of ordinances by the SAR government, respect legislation in the SAR, stop interfering in Hong Kong's internal affairs in any form at once, and not to do anything that will undermine Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. The Chinese side will make further response in view of the actions taken by the US side.
