Yang Jiechi Meets with the Delegation of the Republican Party and the Democratic Party of the United States (US)

On November 21, 2019, Yang Jiechi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee met in Beijing with the delegation of the Republican Party and the Democratic Party of the United States (US), who attended the 11th China-US Political Party Leaders Dialogue in China.

Yang Jiechi expressed, the present China-US relations are at a critical stage, it is therefore very important for the political parties of our two countries to strengthen dialogue and exchanges. It is hoped that both sides will make good use of the platform for dialogue between political parties to enhance mutual communication and understanding as well as jointly propel a China-US relationship defined by coordination, cooperation and stability.

The US side expressed, despite the different political views of the two political parties in the US, members of the delegation share the same hope that the US-China relations will overcome difficulties and move forward constantly, and are willing to work with the Chinese side to bring bilateral relations back to the right track.

Yang Jiechi also made clear the Chinese side’s principled position on the Hong Kong issue.
