Updated: September 05, 2020 08:58

On September 4, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng gave an interview to Russian media after watching a photo exhibition held at the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the victory of World War II.

Le Yucheng said, September 3 marks the 75th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin exchanged congratulatory messages, and people from all walks of life in China and Russia held grand commemorative activities to jointly celebrate this great victory. These pictures portray the great moments 75 years ago when justice triumphed over evil, light over darkness, and progress over reaction. We will not forget that the Soviet Red Army immediately marched eastward after defeating German fascism, which made great contributions to liberating northeast China and defeating Japanese militarism.

Le Yucheng said, World War II was an unprecedented catastrophe in human history. As the main battlefields of Asia and Europe in World War II, China and the Soviet Union made great sacrifices and indelible historical contributions to the fight against the invaders. Looking back on the past, we should bear in mind that peace does not come easily, and we should cherish peace and maintain peace. The victory of World War II should be protected and the tragedy of war shall never be allowed to repeat. We should resolutely oppose hegemonism and power politics, firmly oppose overbearing behavior and wrongdoing in international relations, and resolutely oppose wanton interference in the internal affairs of other countries, including randomly imposing unilateral sanctions on other countries, and even using force or threatening to use force.

As major countries in the world, permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and comprehensive strategic partners, China and Russia bear special responsibilities and missions to safeguard world peace and stability, and defend international fairness and justice. The two sides should inherit the profound friendship forged during the war times, constantly consolidate China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, and actively support and practice multilateralism, so as to make due contributions to promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
