Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs of the Chinese Government Qian Bo Visits Solomon Islands

From June 4 to 5, 2024, Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs of the Chinese Government Qian Bo visited Solomon Islands, met with new Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Jeremiah Manele, and had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations, practical cooperation as well as issues of mutual interest and concern. Jeremiah Manele reiterated that the new government of Solomon Islands will continue to pursue a friendly policy towards China, firmly abide by the one-China principle, and work hand in hand with the Chinese side to jointly promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in the new era to a new level.

Special Envoy Qian Bo also met respectively with Solomon Islands' Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification Bradley Billy Smoky Rodo Tovosia, Minister for the Ministry of Finance and Treasury Manasseh Damukana Sogavare, Foreign Minister Peter Shanel Agovaka, and Leader of Opposition of the National Parliament Matthew Cooper Wale, and attended and addressed the handover ceremony of materials for the China-aided rural sustainable development project in Solomon Islands.
