
On December 4, 2025, Assistant Foreign Minister Cai Wei, upon invitation, attended the reception hosted by the Embassy of Samoa in China to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Samoa.
Cai Wei stated that the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations marks a significant milestone in the development history of China-Samoa relations. President Xi Jinping and Head of State of Samoa Afioga Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II exchanged congratulatory messages, providing important strategic guidance and fundamental guidelines for the further development of bilateral relations. Standing at a new historical starting point in China-Samoa relations, China is ready to make joint efforts with Samoa to strengthen high-level exchanges and interactions at all levels, expand all-round practical cooperation in various fields, enrich and deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and jointly create an even more splendid next 50 years for the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Samoa.
Ambassador of Samoa to China Albert Edward Raynold Mariner said that 50 years ago, Samoa and China established diplomatic relations based on a shared vision and the principle of mutual respect. Samoa firmly supports the one-China principle, which serves as the political foundation of bilateral relations. Over the past 50 years, the friendship between the two countries has remained rock-solid, with fruitful cooperation in various fields and joint efforts to address global challenges. Samoa is willing to continue deepening bilateral relations with China to better benefit the people of both countries and set a benchmark for friendship and cooperation in the Pacific region.
