On February 27, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi answered a question from a journalist on the Korean Peninsula situation on the sidelines of the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of China, Russia and India in Wuzhen of Zhejiang Province.

Wang Yi expressed that the second summit between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States (US) is about to take place soon. It is going to be a major event for DPRK-US relations and also a major event attracting the attention of the whole world. We appreciate that the leaders of the DPRK and the US, through their own earnest practice, have made unremitting efforts in pushing the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

Wang Yi said that every summit should be a new starting point. After the DPRK-US summit in Singapore, the "suspension-for-suspension" of the Korean Peninsula situation has been realized, bringing hope for peace and talks. As for the summit in Hanoi, the Chinese side hopes it will not only consolidate the hard-won situation, but also make an important step forward in pushing the realization of the denuclearization of the Peninsula and the establishment of a peace mechanism on the Peninsula by following the "dual-track" approach.

Wang Yi expressed that no matter how far the destination is, we will get there as long as we have perseverance; no matter how difficult the task is, we will finish it as long as we have determination. The ups and downs in the Korean Peninsula situation over the past decades have shown to us that dialogue and negotiation are the fundamental way out. And only by meeting each other halfway can both sides enjoy stable and long-term progress. We hope both the DPRK side and the US side will showcase sincerity, release goodwill, resolve conflicts and cultivate trust. The Chinese side will continuously be the guardian of peace and stability, promoter of dialogue and peace talks and contributor to lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. China, Russia, India and the international community will continue to make their own contributions to the proper settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
