Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia

On September 27, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia on the sidelines of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi expressed, in a few days, the Chinese people will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and China and Russia will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Entering a new era, bilateral relations are embracing new opportunities and faced with new challenges as well. The two sides should well implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, constantly enrich China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, push for more results in various fields of cooperation, and contribute more Chinese and Russian wisdom and solutions to world peace and stability. As the most meaningful strategic partners, China and Russia should continue to strengthen strategic coordination, safeguard national sovereignty and security, and oppose external interference under the current circumstances. Both sides should firmly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and stand for international fairness and justice, so as to defend the respective interests of the two countries, safeguard world peace and stability, and fulfill the due international responsibilities as permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Extending his warm congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Sergey Lavrov said, the Russian side is ready to cement communication with the Chinese side and hold grand celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Under the current circumstances, the two sides should step up strategic coordination in international and regional affairs and jointly uphold international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. Both sides should continue to strengthen cooperation in various fields and at local level.
