On November 23, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Nagoya.

Wang Yi said, President Xi Jinping recently had really sound strategic communication with President Vladimir Putin during the BRICS Summit, which has further strengthened mutual trust and friendship, and also chartered the course for further development of China-Russia relations. Thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, the practical cooperation between the two countries has developed rapidly and the level of local cooperation has improved markedly, delivering good performance in celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia this year. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Russian side to plan high-level mutual visits next year, jointly celebrate the 75th anniversary of the victory of World War II, host a successfully China-Russia year of scientific and technological innovation, and further enrich the connotation of China-Russia relations in the new era. Facing the international situation infused with prevailing unilateralism and uncertainty, China and Russia have reached important consensus on several issues such as upholding multilateralism and maintaining international strategic stability. Both sides should further strengthen coordination and cooperation under multilateral frameworks including the BRICS mechanism, and safeguard multilateralism and multilateral trading system more vigorously, so as to contribute more to world peace and stability.

Sergey Lavrov said, China and Russia keep close relationship and have conducted efficient bilateral coordination as well as coordination under multilateral frameworks including the G20 and the BRICS mechanism. The Russian side is willing to continue to intensify frequent high-level exchanges and deepen cooperation in various fields with the Chinese side. Since the international situation is faced with lots of worries nowadays, the Russian side advocates upholding the principle of equality, justice and win-win results in international relations and opposes undermining universally recognized international rules brought by the narrow-minded rules of certain countries. The Russian side is willing to continue to work with the Chinese side to deepen strategic communication and coordination on the current major strategic issues.
