On November 29, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Eurasian diplomatic envoys to China and attended friendly exchange activities in Beijing.
Wang Yi expressed, China and Eurasian countries belong to the same continent and share common stake in security, with closely connected future. The Eurasian region always has an important status in China's diplomacy. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Seventy years ago, the Soviet Union took the lead in recognizing and establishing diplomatic relations with the PRC the day after its founding, giving great political support to the new-born PRC. In the early years of the PRC, the Central Committee of the Soviet Union and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics sent experts to assist China, making valuable contributions to the construction of the country. We will always remember this. In the 1990s, though great changes took place both in international and regional situations, the traditional friendship between the Chinese and Eurasian people remains intact. The diplomatic relations between China and Eurasian countries are brimming with new vitality and making new progress after the tests of the international landscape. At present, China and Eurasian countries have become friends of mutual trust in politics, partners of mutual benefit and win-win results in cooperation, and brothers of mutual support in international affairs. Fresh achievements have been made in cooperation under the frameworks like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). The development of bilateral relations has not only brought tangible benefits to the Chinese and Eurasian people, but also made important contributions to regional peace, stability and prosperity.
Wang Yi pointed out, over the past 70 years, the friendly cooperative relations between China and Eurasian countries have gone through many difficulties and been continuously upgraded and improved. The key lies in our adherence in the following four aspects. We have all along adhered to equality, mutual trust and mutual respect. We have always adhered to making coordinated progress and pursuing common development. We have always stayed committed to the principle of non-alliance, non-confrontation and non-targeting at any third party. And we have always pursued good-neighborliness and friendship and mutual benefit and help. All these useful experience has effectively ensured that our traditional friendship has become even firmer over the years, that our political mutual trust has been constantly enhanced and that our mutually beneficial cooperation has been expanded, as well as serves as a useful practice for building a new type of international relations.
Wang Yi said, at present, both China and Eurasian countries are at a significant period in history. The development and rejuvenation of all countries and mutually beneficial cooperation are ushering in broader prospects. At the same time, all kinds of risks in the international situation are becoming more prominent, and all kinds of challenges continue to emerge. We will continue to firmly support each other, further strengthen political mutual trust, and support each other in safeguarding sovereignty, security and development interests, and in encouraging each country to explore a development path that suits its own national conditions. We should tighten the ties of mutually beneficial cooperation, further strengthen confidence in cooperation, eliminate all external interference, continue to make steady headway in joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and achieve common development and prosperity. We should join hands to maintain regional peace and stability, uphold a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept, give full play to the role of mechanisms such as the CICA and the SCO, and earnestly safeguard security and stability in the Eurasian region and even the Eurasia as a whole. In the face of the serious threats posed by unilateralism and bullying, we should take actions, stand on the right side of history, jointly safeguard international fairness and justice, and firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations as the core and the international order based on international law. We will continue to promote the process of world multipolarization and democracy of international relations, so as to strive towards the common goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
On behalf of the diplomatic envoys of Eurasian countries to China, Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov warmly congratulated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC. Andrey Denisov said, 70 years ago, the Soviet Union recognized and established diplomatic relations with the PRC the day after its founding, and this shared history has become a solid foundation for the long-lasting friendly relations between Eurasian countries and China. Over the past 70 years, China's fine diplomatic tradition has been handed down from generation to generation as a link between the past and the future. Contemporary Chinese diplomacy can be described as "deeply-rooted and luxuriant", reaching the state of "following the wishes of the heart without transgressing the rules". Not only does it firmly and effectively safeguard national interests, but also confirms with the international law. It is believed that China's diplomatic cause will continue to see new resplendence.
